Kuiken & Co. Knife Works

Kuiken & Co. Knife Works is a small family knife shop based in Martinsville, Virginia, built on craftsmanship, the outdoors, and a father-and-son idea that turned into a real business.

The story began when the Kuiken family moved into a new home with a large old barn that had the potential to become a workshop. Dustin asked his son Everett what kind of business they should start there together. Without hesitation, Everett answered:

“A knife making business.”

That simple idea sparked the beginning of Kuiken & Co. Knife Works.

Today, Dustin and Everett handcraft each knife one at a time using traditional stock-removal methods and quality materials chosen for performance and durability. Blades are made from both high-carbon and stainless steels and are heat treated and tempered to achieve the proper hardness and toughness. Handles are crafted from premium hardwoods as well as modern materials such as Micarta, giving each knife both strength and character.

Everett plays an important role in the shop and is already learning the craft that he helped inspire. His responsibilities include sanding and finishing knife handles, scribing grind lines on new blades, helping select handle materials, and assisting with sharpening the finished knives. While still learning the trade, Everett takes pride in helping ensure every knife that leaves the shop meets the standards of Kuiken & Co.

Each knife is designed to be a dependable tool—something that can be carried in the woods, used in the field, and trusted for years to come.

Built on faith, driven by freedom, and crafted with integrity—Kuiken & Co. knives are proudly handcrafted in Martinsville, VA, USA and built to last for generations.

Meet the Team

Kuiken & Co. Knife Works

Kuiken & Co. Knife Works is more than a business—it’s a reflection of our faith, our love for freedom, and our commitment to building something meaningful that can be passed down for generations.

As a family-owned, Made in the USA company based in Martinsville, Virginia, our work is grounded in the values we believe in: faith, integrity, hard work, personal responsibility, and the freedom to create.

What began as a simple idea between a father and son has grown into a family craft focused on producing dependable knives built to stand the test of time. Every knife we make represents our belief that tools should not only serve their purpose in the field but also carry a story—something that can be trusted, used, and eventually passed down to the next generation.

Everett - President and Lead Designer

Everett Kuiken is the inspiration behind Kuiken & Co. Knife Works. When the family first discussed starting a business, Everett didn’t hesitate. When asked what kind of business they should start, he answered simply: “A knife making business.” That idea became the foundation of Kuiken & Co.

Today, Everett is learning the craft firsthand while helping in the shop. His responsibilities include sanding and finishing knife handles, scribing grind lines on new blades, helping select handle materials, and assisting with sharpening finished knives.

Everett takes pride in being part of something bigger than himself—helping build a family legacy rooted in faith, hard work, and the freedom to create something of lasting value.

Dustin Kuiken — Founder and Knife Maker

Dustin Kuiken is the craftsman behind Kuiken & Co. Knife Works. A lifelong outdoorsman with a deep appreciation for hunting, tools, and working with his hands, Dustin began making knives after moving his family into a home with a barn that could be transformed into a workshop.

Using traditional stock-removal methods, Dustin handcrafts each knife one at a time. From the initial design to the final edge, he personally shapes, grinds, heat treats, tempers, and assembles every blade before it receives the Kuiken & Co. mark.

He works with both high-carbon and stainless steels, pairing them with premium hardwoods and modern materials such as Micarta to create knives that are dependable, comfortable in the hand, and built to perform in real-world use.

Dustin’s mission is simple: to craft knives that reflect the values of faith, integrity, freedom, and American craftsmanship—tools that can be trusted in the field and handed down for generations.

Kellie — Operations and Backbone

Kellie is the backbone of Kuiken & Co. Knife Works, helping keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes. From organization and logistics to supporting the day-to-day needs of the business, she plays a vital role in keeping the shop focused and moving forward.

Her support helps turn a family dream into a growing generational business, grounded in faith and built with purpose.

Maddie — Head of Shop Morale

Maddie may be the youngest member of the team, but she plays an important role in the workshop. While she’s not quite ready to help make knives yet, she brings plenty of personality, energy, and smiles to the shop.

Her visits to the work shop serve as a reminder of why this business exists in the first place—to build something meaningful for the next generation.

Wesley — Vice President and Future Craftsman

Wesley represents the future of Kuiken & Co. Knife Works. He enjoys spending time around the workshop, watching raw materials transform into finished knives.

Though still learning and observing, he is already developing an interest in the tools and craftsmanship behind the process. With time, guidance, and dedication, Wesley is part of the next generation that will carry this family business forward.

Bryce — Airman 1st Class

Bryce helped shape the values that Kuiken & Co. Knife Works is built on today. Through that time, he developed a strong appreciation for faith, integrity, hard work, and the importance of family.

While Bryce is now grown and out on his own, he remains an important part of the team. He recently enlisted in the United States Air Force, choosing to serve his country and pursue a path built on discipline, service, and dedication.

Though his journey has taken him beyond the workshop, Bryce continues to represent the same values that guide Kuiken & Co.—faith, freedom, integrity, and commitment to something greater than oneself.
